Jaipurites, we all have seen the City Palace from outside but has it intrigued you how would a walk around the home of the royals be like? Well, we decided to explore the sections of the charming palace and share it with you!

Jaipur narrates its history as a breathing capital of Rajasthan embraced by the illustrious patronage, culture, architecture, performing arts and craft. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the new capital of Jaipur was unique for its urban planning & vision. With a perfect embodiment of the bygone era beautifully balancing with modern developments; magnificent palaces, special pink facades, vibrant markets, exquisite handicrafts, and colorful festivals, Jaipur continues to celebrate the splendor of its majestic past.

Poised in the middle of Jaipur, the world famous City Palace complex is an integral part of the walled city. Built by the Kachhwaha ruler of Amer – Jaipur, Sawai Jai Singh II, the 18th century Palace glorifies the magnificence of Jaipur’s heritage with its courtyards, gateways, temples and gardens. Characterized by a series of dedicated galleries and museums that offer a grand view of Jaipur’s flamboyant heritage, the City Palace Complex reflects the magnitude of its historical importance and monarchy. A site of living tradition, the City Palace continues to be the home and pride of Jaipur’s Royal Family.

Take a walk around the opulent sections of the City Place with us!

  1. The Mubarak Mahal is one of the last princely additions to the City Palace, and was completed in 1900. The magnificent double-storeyed building was used to welcome special guests to the royal palace. Islamic, Rajput and European elements of architecture and ornamentation have been assimilated in this building. Today it houses a splendid textile gallery, and some offices of the Museum.

  1. The Sileh Khana building covers the story of the arms and armoury of the kingdom of Dhoondhar. Now a gallery, you can see a range of exquisite but deadly weapons, including swords, daggers, guns, and more on display here.
  2. The Sabha Niwas, also known as the Diwan-e-Aam, is a Public Hall of Audience that has been used by successive Maharajas. The Durbar and important official ceremonies would take place here. This was also where His Highness Maharaja Sawai Mansingh II took oath as the first Raj Pramukh of the newly constituted State of Rajasthan in 1949.

4. The Sarvato Bhadra, an airy pavilion, open on all four sides, except for small rooms at each corner, is a Rajput architectural innovation. Several rituals and celebrations, including the Dussehra Pooja, and Makar Sankranti festival, happen in this courtyard. On display in the Sarvato Bhadra structure are the world’s largest silver urns, the Ganga-jalis. Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh the second took the Ganga-jalis with him to England in 1902, as a way to maintain his ritual purity, when he travelled across the seas to attend the coronation of King-Emperor Edward the seventh of Great Britain.

5. Pritam Niwas Chowk is the inner courtyard of the City Palace. It has four smaller gates, each themed around the four seasons and dedicated to a particular Hindu God.

PEACOCK GATE

Peacock Gate: The northeastern peacock gate represents autumn and has a small idol of Lord Vishnu on its lintel.

LOTUS GATE

Lotus Gate: The southwestern gate is adorned with dramatic lotus petals and flower patterns. It represents summer and Lord Shiva.

ROSE GATE

Rose Gate: The winter season is showcased by this gate. Filled with repeating rose patterns, it is dedicated to Goddess Devi.

LEHERIYA GATE

Leheriya Gate: The Leheriya (waves) gate is on the northwest side of the courtyard. It is green in color, indicating spring and dedicated to Lord Ganesha.

While exploring these landmarks, you will notice that many of their doorways are singular in character; be it the imposing gateways with intricate frescoes at the entrance or the smaller, nondescript doors inside the palaces. Each gate has a role to play and a story to tell. In City Palace, they reflect the influence of Mughal, European and Indian Shilpa Shastra styles.

6. Govind Dev Ji Temple is an epitome of pure devotion and exquisiteness. Surrounded by manicured gardens, spectacular chhatris and fountains, the marvelously textured temple is situated in the City Palace Complex.
Built-in 1735 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh II, the temple is amongst the seven temples of Vrindavan Thakur, who is one of Lord Krishna’s forms, Govind Dev ji. Swarmed by a great number of devotees and tourists each day, the calming temple of Govind Dev Ji allows the visitors to witness its tranquil surroundings and experience its powerful aura.

Described as the ‘greatest literary show on Earth’, the Jaipur Literature Festival is taking a virtual avatar this year due to the pandemic. This is the 14th edition of JLF and we will definitely miss the vibrancy of the physical event in the city.
Despite this, it makes us proud to tell that the Jaipur poet, Jagdeep Singh, will be featured at this virtual edition in February. A video of his reading some of his poems from the first collection ‘My Epitaph’, will be shown in the category of ‘New Writers Short Series’.

The anthology, published by Writers Workshop in Kolkata, comprises of poems, which are about a variety of topics like vagaries of life, the inevitability of death, the pangs of love, and even on the struggle of writing poetry. One special feature of the poems is that some of them are on well-known personas like Hemingway, Hamlet, Sylvia Plath, and even the protagonist of the well-known novel, Catch-22, ‘Yossarian’.

Dr. Ananda Lal, the man behind the Writers Workshop, Kolkata, which is fastidious about the Indo-English poetry they publish said for his poems: “Apart from their originality and sensitivity, they have the rare quality in an Indian poet of irony and readiness to laugh at oneself or about otherwise serious themes.”

The anthology will be officially launched at physical book events at the end of February both in Jaipur and New Delhi.

Despite the pandemic, let’s celebrate the joy of knowledge in a digital avatar at JLF 2021!

Amid the rising cases of COVID in the state and the city, we Jaipurites must understand the importance of getting vaccinated and should participate in India’s vaccination drive. Getting vaccinated means reduced risk of getting the illness and protecting people around you.

Source: Business Standard

Known as the world’s largest vaccination programme, India’s COVID immunisation drive began on January 16, where the healthcare and frontline workers got vaccinated first. The vaccination programme was then extended to people over 60 years of age. Now starting from 1 April, those aged 45 and with comorbidities (simultaneous presence of two or more diseases) will be able to take vaccines against coronavirus.

The vaccines can be taken free of cost in government hospitals or by paying Rs. 250 per dose in private facilities. The government has also approved expanding the dosage interval for Covishield from 28 days to 4-8 weeks based on scientific advice as it is more effective.

If you are wondering how to register, we are here to help you out. The schedule and appointment can be booked on or after April 1. You can register and book an appointment through the dedicated CoWIN portal or the Arogya Setu app.

Both the platforms allow a user to register at least four family members, including the user, for the coronavirus vaccine.

Aarogya Setu
• On Aarogya Setu, go to the CoWIN tab, tap on the “Vaccination” tab and then select the “Register Now” option.
• Register via your mobile number and enter the OTP.
• Select the type of photo ID proof you wish to upload and fill in the details.
• On the following page, you will need to submit proof of eligibility. If above 45, you will have to upload a doctor’s certificate as proof of comorbidity.
• Now, choose your nearest vaccination centre and time slot to book the appointment.
• Once registered successfully, you will receive an SMS with the appointment details.

CoWIN
• On CoWIN, register via your mobile number and enter the OTP.
• After verification, the ‘Registration for Vaccination’ page will open. Enter your details, such as photo ID proof.
• The page will ask you if you have any comorbidities, which can be answered by simply clicking on ‘yes’ or ‘no’. If 45+, upload doctor’s certificate as comorbidity proof.
• Once you enter the details for registration, click the ‘Register’ button.
• If you get registered successfully, a confirmation message will be sent to your registered mobile number.
• Once registered, you will be shown the “Account Details” page, where you can schedule your appointment.
• Click on the “Schedule Appointment” tab and set your appointment as per your wish.

Upon vaccination, you must insist on receiving a hard copy or a digital copy/link of your Vaccination Certificate. If the hospital does not provide a certificate, the beneficiary may lodge a complaint at toll-free number 1075. (Source: Ministry of Health)

Some of the vaccination centres of Jaipur are: Sawai Man Singh Hospital, Jaipur Hospital, Monilek Hospital, Metro Mas Hospital, Fortis Escorts Hospital, Eternal Hospital, C K Birla Hospital, Manipal Hospital, Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.

You will find your nearest COVID vaccination centre after registering on CoWIN or Aarogya Setu.

The universe has been kind to all of us and given us two long weekends back-to-back. Yes, we are talking about the Holi long weekend (Sat, Sun, Mon-27th, 28th & 29th March) and the Good Friday long (2nd, 3rd, & 4th April) weekend. And in case your bosses are generous and cool enough to grant you 31st & 1st April days of extra leaves then you just have the whole week off!

It doesn’t get better than this right?
Well, it does if you plan a getaway for these long weekends to none other than Jaipur aka Pink City. And just to substantiate our above hypothesis, allow us to give you some mind-blowing reasons for you to plan your getaway to our favorite city, Jaipur.

The magnificent and spectacular forts and palaces

The city is filled with forts and places that draw the attention of tourists from all over the world. The forts are well known over the globe for their royal architecture, culture, age-old charm, and grandeur. Forts that we would recommend you to visit and experience the royalty of Rajasthan are:

 • Amber Palace – The famous Amer Fort is one of the most visited forts in Rajasthan and is also registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Overlooking the Maota lake, Amber Fort is known for its aesthetical style elements. Also, for all the history buffs out there – do you know that Amer was the capital of the state before Jaipur?

Nahargarh Fort – What comes to your mind when it comes to enjoying an eagle’s eye view of Jaipur’s jaw-dropping skyline?
Definitely, it is Nahargarh! One of the favourite spots for Jaipurites.
Situated in the Aravalli mountains, Nahargarh which means “adobe of tigers” is a majestic and spectacular fort. You can enjoy cycling and trekking at this fort and can also visit the Nahargarh biological park. Built in 1734 during the reign of Sawai Jai Singh (1698-1740), the extensive water systems of Nahargarh are one of the most significant features of the fort. So get your walking shoe on and one can take a walk through Water Heritage to uncover history to architecture, and see the history come alive.

Hawa Mahal – This five-storey building continues to be the major attraction of all those travelling to the Pink City. The unique attraction is its 953 windows which were actually constructed to give a cool breeze to the royal ladies that watched processions from the inside of the Wind Palace.

If this architectural wonder intrigues you more, check this out: https://jaipurbeat.com/2018/12/11/things-no-one-tells-you-hawa-mahal-jaipur/

Jal Mahal – Located in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, this 5 storied building continues to stand still in Man Sagar Lake with 4 floors immersed in water.
Back then it was used for royal duck shooting parties. With tranquil waters by the side and birds sitting on top of the chattris makes for a picturesque view. One can enjoy camel or horse safari and also shop for the local handicrafts from the temporary bazaars set near this place.

City Palace – The City Palace, Jaipur is one of the most admired and finest attractions among the places to visit in the Pink City. With an organized layout of large courtyards, perfectly manicured gardens, and magnificent mahals, the palace is still home to the royal family of Jaipur. Apart from its magical architecture, the palace is also known for its beautiful gates.
While planning a trip to Jaipur, make sure you reserve a day to visit the corridors of the City Palace and live a day like the royals!

Jawahar Circle – The newest edition in the list is the ninth gate of Jaipur, known as ‘Patrika Gate’. It not only keeps heritage value but also the aesthetic value due to its modern architecture mingled with traditional style. The poly-chromatic patterns and vibrant surroundings make this gate one of a kind. The vibrant colours and mesmerizing architecture are always admired and make this an Instagram-worthy place as no one can leave without capturing its beauty.

Tips on how to manage your daily routine during lockdown

It is rather a difficult and testing time for our Country. We understand how overwhelming it gets to hear about increasing cases, deaths and other negative news from the time we wake up in the morning till the night, especially when there is a lockdown going on.

But a positive mindset is the only key to pass through these unnerving times. You all must be thinking that how does anyone keep a positive mindset amidst these catastrophic situations? Well, it’s not easy but following a proper and disciplined routine is a major factor that helps us in having a positive outlook throughout the day.

Here are some tips on how to start and end your day during the lockdown –

  • Wake up with a smile and try to avoid using your phone for an hour (especially the news apps). Instead, take a 5-10 minutes’ walk in your balcony or terrace and try connecting with the mother nature; it will definitely make you feel peaceful and rejuvenated. Meditation and gardening work like therapies too.
  • Try doing yoga, aerobics or any other indoor exercise that you love. It helps you in keeping fit and helps to start your day with energy, focus and optimism. Doing breathing exercises are a necessity these days to keep your lungs healthy. Don’t forget to plug in your speakers/earphones for listen to some music while doing these exercises. Listening to music always makes the worries go away even if for a while.
  • Make your own breakfast. Cooking food is definitely therapeutic and what’s better than cooking the most important meal of the day by yourself. Don’t forget to have romance with your chai or coffee.
  • Take bath, finish your daily chores and get to work. If you are a working professional its always beneficial to start your working hours as early as possible so that you can complete your tasks before the new tasks or team’s tasks starts to come in. If you are not working anywhere, it’s best to read some positive books for a while and then do whatever you love. Some books that we suggest are – Ikigai, chasing your life dreams, Man’s search for meaning among others.
  • Have your lunch on time and don’t forget to have a nutritious lunch. Post lunch relax for a while, tune into Netflix, take a power nap or utilize this time to help and support others in whatever way you can. You can also educate your maids, drivers and other support systems by sharing with them more knowledge about Covid and giving them well-being tips. A small helping hand definitely goes a long way. After chilling for a while, its best to get back to work and try to end your working day by 6 P.M.
  • Once your working hours are over, it’s the best idea to give your family and friends some time (virtually and not physically please). Call your friends and talk with them. Sharing a few laughs never harmed anyone. Spend time with your parents, kids, spouses and try to do a group activity together. Maybe play an indoor game (our favorite is scrabble or ludo) or just cook dinner together. You can also do group exercises to build a fitter body. Don’t forget to connect with friends or family who are directly affected. Call them to know about their well being and try to pass on positive and hopeful vibes to them.
  • Eat dinner together and try talking only positive things on the dinner table. A small 10 minutes’ post dinner walk on your terrace will definitely help you get a goodnight sleep.
  • Take steam, listen to some soothing music and dream away!

And finally, DON’T LOOSE HOPE AND STAY POSITIVE AND HAPPY.

We really hope these tips help you in getting through these difficult times with positivity, wisdom and good health. Let’s pray collectively for the world to heal as soon as possible.
