Children Trafficking Amid Covid | Save The Children | Jaipur Beat

India has reported a record number of deaths from COVID-19, over the past weeks. Whilst some children who lose their parents are taken in by relatives or guardians, others are left to fend for themselves, putting them at risk of child trafficking.
To protect children from falling prey to child traffickers, Save the Children is urging people not to share details about orphaned children online, and instead to contact 1098. Save the Children is deeply concerned about the growing number of children who have lost parents to COVID-19 in India. Desperate pleas to adopt orphaned children have circulated on social media, leaving them vulnerable to trafficking and abuse.

One post shared on social media read: “Kids aged 2 yrs old baby girl and 2 months old baby boy whose parents have passed away due to Covid. These kids need a home. If anyone close to you is looking for adoption, please contact…”

In order to prevent illegal adoptions, hospitals across the country have reportedly been told to take declarations from sick parents, to confirm who their children should go to in case of their deaths.

Kushal, age 9, and Preti, 10, first reached out to Save the Children for help when their mother started suffering from a fever and was diagnosed with COVID-19. Despite being admitted to a local clinic and even with access to oxygen, she passed away. Kushal and Preti weren’t allowed to attend her funeral due to local restrictions. With their father not being able to take care of them while he’s at work and, unable to get their usual meals at school, the children were going hungry. Save the Children staff is working with the local child protection unit and are arranging care for both children.

Sanjay Sharma, Deputy Programs Director for Save the Children in India said:

“This is an incredibly confusing and difficult time for children, especially for those who have lost their parents. Every day we receive around 80 distress calls from children in just one state, and we’re concerned that things will get even worse for as the death toll continues to rise. Children who lose their caregivers and are left to fend for themselves are extremely vulnerable to exploitation and abuse, and we’re doing everything we can to protect them from falling victim to illegal adoption or trafficking.

Besides the immediate threat to their safety, we’re also extremely concerned about the toll this crisis is taking on children’s mental health. In many cases, these children will have had to watch their parents suffer without access to oxygen or proper medical care, which is likely to leave them extremely distressed. Children from poorer families might also have to work to support their families, or care for younger brothers or sisters, which means they’ll have to drop out of school, trapping them in a cycle of poverty.”

Save the Children provides mental health support to children who have lost their parents to the virus. The organisation’s helpline in collaboration with the state commission in Rajasthan has been receiving an average of 80 calls every day. These helplines provide psychosocial support and can redirect cases of children who need protection to the rightful authorities. The helpline is mostly called by children between 14 to 18 years old and by parents.

If you come to know of any child who has lost both parents to Covid and has no one to take care of her/him, contact 1098. It is your responsibility.

Given the dreadful situation of hospital beds in our country during the current wave of Covid-19, many professionals and experts have suggested that not everyone needs hospitalization. The most common symptoms of covid are fever, coughing, fatigue, sore throat, diarrhea, loss of taste and smell. Asymptomatic patients or people with mild symptoms can easily be treated at home. Patients with moderate CT scans and with oxygen saturation levels above 94% can also undergo home isolation.

Here are some professional tips on how to treat Covid at home

  • If you are treating coronavirus at home there are two essential equipment’s that are required – one is pulse oximeter and another one is thermometer. According to doctors, both needs to be used twice a day by the patient and records need to be tracked.
  • If you are living with your family, the best practice for self-isolation is to have a separate room with a separate bathroom. Make sure that the room has enough ventilation.
  • Please do not share utensils, linen or any other personal items with any member in the family. Patient should always use triple layer medical mask and discard masks after every 8 hours.
  • There should be only one caregiver for the patient. The caregiver should always have a double mask on or a N95 and should maintain at least 1 meter distance while catering to the patient.
  • Maintaining adequate hydration is very necessary for the patient hence patient should drink a lot of fluids and also take good amount of rest and not over exert. Drinking hot water is preferable.
  • Patients must be in communication with their treating doctor and promptly report in case of any deterioration. Patient should keep updating their doctor about their body temperature and oxygen levels.
  • Taking warm water betadine gargles and steam inhalation thrice a day is a must.
  • Patient should eat the prescribed medicines on time and should try not to miss any dosage.
  • It is better to lye down on your stomach rather than lying down on your back. This is because lying on the front of the body can stop the heart and stomach from pressing down on the lungs.
  • Vitamic C, Viatmic D and zinc are some important supplements that should be taken alongside the medicines.
  • Patient should eat a variety of fresh and unprocessed foods every day to get the vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, protein and antioxidants your body needs. Choose white meat and fish rather than read meat. Avoid processed meats because they are high in fat and salt. Opt for low fat versions of milk and dairy products and lastly avoid industrially produces trans fat like frozen foods, processed foods, cookies, spreads etc. https://jaipurbeat.com/2021/05/08/foods-that-help-in-building-immunity-during-covid/
  • Water is the best choice, but you can also consume other drinks, for example lemon juice, tea and coffee. But be careful not to consume too much caffeine, and avoid sweetened fruit juices, syrups, fruit juice concentrates, fizzy and still drinks as they all contain sugar.
  • Doing some lung exercises like yoga (anulom-vilom) or using spirometer three times a day will definitely help in fastening up the recovery.
  • Seek Medical Attention immediately if –
    • There is difficulty in breathing
    • Dip in oxygen saturation (below 94%)
    • Persistent pain in the chest
    • Fever constantly above 101 even after eating paracetamol
    • Mental confusion
    • Bluish lips or face
  • Patient under home isolation will stand discharged and end isolation after at least 14 days have passed from onset of symptoms (or from date of sampling for asymptomatic cases).

Finally stay hopeful, read interesting novels, avoid watching negative news, listen to soothing music, watch comedy movies, have conversations with friends (on the phone) and remain cheerful.

This shall too pass.

How to grow your own home garden | International Day for Biodiversity | Jaipur Beat

The UN has proclaimed 22nd May as the International Day for Biological Diversity to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. The importance of biodiversity is increasingly being recognized as of serious concern on national and international levels. It goes without saying that government needs to take action to find practical and workable ways to increase biological diversity. However, individuals can also begin to act in their own ways and help create ecological change and increase biodiversity.

Biodiversity Day 2021 is being celebrated under the theme, ‘We’re part of the solution #ForNature’. Gardening for biodiversity and inviting nature to our doorstop is the least we can do to resolve issues pertaining to biodiversity.

During spring and summers, Jaipur always turns much more colourful because of the vast variety of flowers and plants blooming across the city and we know how much Jaipurites have been missing visiting the lovely nurseries of our Pink City due to the lockdown. But we can assure you that creating your home garden is great fun and a great hobby to pursue. So come on, get up and start planting! Let’s make our Pink City way more vibrant with shades of whites, greens, pinks, yellows, magentas, violets and reds.

Below are few tips which will help you in growing our own home garden –

  • Choose the correct space to grow your garden. The space you choose should get at least 5-6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Avoid a space that receive strong winds to protect your young and budding plants.
  • Soil packed with nutrients are always beneficial to plants. Check the texture of your soil. It should be easily shovelled and crumble in your hands. You can improve the quality of your soil by adding organic compost made of tea, vegetable peels etc.
  • Once you have your place and soil ready, you definitely would be needing some gardening tools. Some must have gardening tools are – Pruning scissors, spade, trowel, garden fork, hose pipe, watering can and gardening knife.
  • Picking your greens. Study various plants and then decide which plants to grow. Some plants might need direct sunlight and others might need shade. Picking the plants that are native to your area is advisable.
  • Choose the right time to grow your plant. Monsoon is the best time to plant seeds of tomatoes, beans, cabbage, peas, basil, oregano etc. Colorful flowing plans like marigold, daffodils, bougainvillea etc. bloom in summers. Flowering plants like hibiscus, lotus, gul mohar bloom in monsoon season.
  • Water your plants right. The best way to water your plants is slowly, allowing the water to reach deep into the soil. Overwatering your plants can lead to waterlogging which can damage your plants. Plants at different stages of development also require different dosages of water. Young plants will need to be watered every day to encourage the growth of the plant and healthy roots, whereas developed plants will need to be watered once every 2-3 days, depending on the weather conditions.
  • The fertilizer is the gardener’s best friend. Adding organic fertilizers to your soil will help it to retain moisture, stimulate good bacteria growth, and fight pests and diseases. It will also help you to reduce your carbon footprint. Make your own organic fertilizer to give your plants the extra boost to grow. Start with compost – organic material that can be added to your garden to help your plants grow. This can be anything from tea bags, grounded coffee, lawn trimmings, crushed fruit peels, etc.
  • Pests and diseases are more attracted to plants that are stressed or have some deficiency. If your plants get infected, chances are there’s an organic solution. Pro Tip- Mix up some neem oil, water and a few drops of dish soap. Shake it well and spray it on your plants once every two weeks to keep the pests away.
  • Although the task of trimming beautiful plants can be hard for gardeners to swallow, regular pruning keeps most plants healthy and encourages new growth. But when and what to prune depends on the type of plant and the climate you stay in. Proper maintenance of your plants is the greatest and the most rewarding thing you can give your garden.

Congratulations, you are now a plant parent. Happy Gardening!

One fine day, a group of friends visited them for lunch, where Dadi’s Chole Bhature won everyone’s heart. Such that, even after they requested Dadi to send them chole bhature. That is when Dadi Gurdeep Soni, decided to turn her passion for cooking into a food venture. She proposed the idea to the family and kick-started her journey of being a Home Chef.

Meanwhile, her son Timmi Soni who was part of a Whatsapp Group consisting of food lovers, where the members talked about food, shared food pictures, and of course enjoy each other’s dishes. Must-Visit Spots Of Jaipur

The City Palace – This legendary palace engages one-seventh of the walled city of Jaipur with temples, edifices, courtyards, gardens and museum which make the palace a cherished tourist attraction. Built in the years 1729 – 1732, the City Palace was the official residence of Maharaja of Jaipur. A part of the palace, ‘Chandra Mahal’, is still being used by the royal family, while rest of the palace is a beautiful art and ammunition museum. The doors representing four seasons, massive silver vessels and art galleries are the most significant things to see in the complex.  To experience the magnificence of the palace numerous visitors from across the globe visit the city palace every year.

Albert Hall – Albert Hall is an eye catching façade standing tall in the midst of Ram Niwas gardens contrasting acres of green in Jaipur. This solitary structure takes you back into an era where aesthetics came first and remained foremost in architectural planning.  Albert Hall was designed by Colonel Sir Swinton Jacob in 1876 to greet King Edward VII, Prince of Wales on his visit to India. Later after 10 years it was opened for public viewing. The most interesting things you’d find in the museum are the Persian carpets, costumes of ancient warriors and an Egyptian mummy. Crossing those majestic gates, centuries old trees on your left and right flanks, lush gardens, multitude of pigeons in front and in the middle of it all this majestic building in Hindu-Gothic architectural style is nothing less than impressive!

Jantar Mantar – We would find plenty of astronomical observatories around the world, but the Jantar Mantar is by far one of the largest observatories ever built. Meticulously blending religion, science and art, the Jantar Mantar is the name given to a series of five, fascinating structures built in Jaipur, Delhi, Varanasi, Ujjain and Mathura. Jaipur was the seat of Maharaja Jai Singh II- also a great scholar and astronomer; and during his reign in 1720’s the magnificent structure of Jantar Mantar was built here. The largest of the five observatories, Jantar Mantar in the City Palace compound Jaipur also houses the world’s largest sundial. The term ‘Jantar Mantar’ is obtained from the Sanskrit terms ‘Yantra’ and ‘Mantra’ which means ‘instruments’ and ‘formula’ respectively. Not only astronomy enthusiasts but other visiting tourists too love to visit the Jantar Mantar observatory! It is a must-see tourist site in Jaipur!

Hawa Mahal – The quintessence of marvellous Rajput architecture, Hawa Mahal “Palace of wind” stands high as a landmark facade in the heart of Pink City. Built from red sandstone in the year 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, this prominent Jaipur attraction is popular for its fabulous five storey structure and eye catching honeycomb façade with 953 intricately designed windows. Hawa Mahal is popular for its Beehive like structure, while surprisingly the entrance to Hawa Mahal is from the back side of the main building. The front portion interestingly has no entry but miniature windows all over which makes it the most photographed monument in Jaipur. Moreover, on this busy street of Jaipur, Hawa Mahal stares at the sprawling market below which is a treat for shopping enthusiasts.

Amer Fort – Built in 1592 AD, the impeccable Amer Fort on a high Aravalli Hillock 11 kilometer from Jaipur belies an inner paradise which is a marvellous blend of Rajput, Mughal and British architecture. The fairy tale opulence of this ornate fort is breathtaking. The imposing fort on a steep hillock is marvelous with stupendous paintings, fabulous murals and carvings. Amer’s eminence is very much visible through its palaces, decorated rooms, sprawling gardens, Maota Lake and cobbled pathways. The lurching elephant rides and evening Sound & Light show adds to the grandeur of Amer Fort. There is a lot more to Amer other than its statuesque Fort- the refreshing kesar kyari gardens, sacred temple of Shitla Mata and a secret Armory. The finer lines and subdued colors make it remarkable and revered.
Sanganeri Print
  • The origin of Bagru can be traced to Rajasthan’s Chippas community about 450 years back. This traditional technique relies on natural dyes and is predominantly done on indigo or blue base fabric. Its trademark design is an amalgamation of geometric patterns and animal/bird motifs. The motifs are comparatively larger than Sanganeri prints as well as bolder.
  • Lehriya, meaning a ‘Leher’, a wave. In ancient times the wave embodies a craft which brings hope to the arid state of Rajasthan.  Lehriya is like an heirloom, which is our rich heritage, and people adorning themselves in those impeccable waves presents a cultural and spiritual image of Rajasthan. When in Jaipur you could grab yourself a Lehriya print attire and flaunt yourself clothed in the culture of Jaipur.

Teej Festival – It is the time of spring when Goddess Parvati meets her beloved Lord Shiva after a long time. While the women in Jaipur pray for long life of their husbands. An elaborate procession of accoutrements with adorned camels, horses and elephants parade through the walled city of Jaipur. Gangaur Festival – Gangaur Festival is also marked in reverence to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The word is formed from ‘Gan’ and ‘Gauri’Gan is another name of Shiv while Gauri is used to address Parvati. Similar to Teej, a mesmerizing procession of Goddess Parvati winds magnificently through the Old City of Jaipur via Tripoliya Gate (City Palace) Tripoliya Bazar and Gangauri Bazar with chariots, decorated camels, dancing folk artists, brass bands and royal palanquins for two days.

Kite Festival – This is one festival which eliminates all the boundaries between young and old, kid and elders. Many tourists plan their Jaipur vacation in such a way that it falls around Sankranti. The religious significance of the festival is marked by doing charity and taking an early morning holy dip in Galtaji- the religious water pond in Jaipur.! The Pink City’s sky turns into a canvas of colors with Kites; the spirited sounds of “Woh Kata”, hot pakodas and loud speaker music – each element of Makar Sankranti in Jaipur is worth not to be missed.  As the day fall in the arms of evening a marvelous show of firework and lanterns mesmerizes the onlookers till late night.

During the Festival days, there are endless places to see, and things to do, some of which include insightful sessions and an exciting and buzzing carnival encapsulating a bookstore, food stalls, a bazaar along with artists at work, and multiple parties hosted on the Festival’s fringes.

Culinary Delights of Jaipur

Kachori and Samosa – We believe these two are the national breakfast and evening snack of every Jaipurite. The love for Rawat’s famous Pyaz Ki Kachori and Samrat’s hot and crispy Samose is very strong. Nothing can compare to the pleasure of savouring them with green or tamrind chutney!

Rabri – Mahaveer Rabri Bhandar- one of the oldest places in Jaipur this rabri bhandar is famous not only for its rabri but also for a range of other sweets. This creamy and rich textured rabri is another summer delight that is very fulfilling.

Ghewar – “Ghevar”,  an incredible Rajasthani Delicacy which is widely popular and traditionally associated with Teej Festival (locally called Sawan ki Teej or Hariyali Teej) and Raksha Bandhan festival falling in the month of August. Ghevar is a round mesh-like disc-shaped fried delicacy drenched in cardamom and saffron flavoured sugar syrup and topped with sliced nuts and flavored rabri. We bet you are already dreaming to gobble Ghevar because this festival Dessert is always a chart-topper!

Lal Maas – Laal maas is a delectable dish originated from Rajasthan itself, you may find it some places outside of Rajasthan too, but the authentic taste of Rajasthan is hard to copy. The dish is eaten with Indian Breads (Bajra roti, Bejad Roti, Jungli roti, Roomali roti, and whatnot).

Earthen lamps, candlelights, decoration lights, a home filled with sweets, card parties with family and friends, and the pleasant weather – That is how we describe the Diwali celebrations in India. Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan celebrates Diwali with much pomp and show. The markets are adorned with beautiful lights and festoons, and the illuminated markets are filled with handicrafts, jewelry, food stalls, and happy people. The city of Jaipur is popular for celebrating Diwali in the best possible way. Each and every native of this city celebrates this vibrant festival in high spirits.

So, here we are, to take you through some of the best places in Jaipur to witness the Diwali celebration of the pink city –

Johari Bazaar – Beautifully decked up and oozing with glitter and lights all around the streets, Johari Bazaar is just the right place to be on Diwali. The shops and dwelling architecture at Johari Bazaar are all lightened with vibrant colors and festive vibes. Johari Bazaar is affectionately called ‘The Strip’ because like ‘The Strip’ of Las Vegas, this place also dazzles onlookers with its spectacular decorations. And, of course, it is the best market in Jaipur for all your Diwali shopping needs.

Chaura Rasta– Chaura Rasta lies in the walled city zone of Jaipur and is mostly known for its eye-catching decorations amid the festival of Diwali. Firecrackers and flawlessly made lights, light up all corners of the spot during Diwali. It is a must-visit spot to experience the true essence of Diwali.

Laxmi Mishtan Bhandar – Diwali isn’t Diwali without some mouth-watering sweets! And to buy and taste the most irresistible sweets of Jaipur, one has to visit LMB. During the Diwali season, this shop is full of customers buying kilos of sweets to distribute to their family and friends. Even though the shops seem crowded during this season, the Diwali Vibe of this place is energetic and should be witnessed by every

Nahargarh Fort – The view of Jaipur from Nahargarh Fort on Diwali is beyond mesmerizing. The fort offers serene yet breathtaking views of this beautiful festival, including stunning flashes of the lit-up walled city. Do visit the spot to witness the best array of lights. The beauty of this fort gets enhanced by a quantum fold on the day of Diwali as the whole Jaipur city looks remarkable from its façade and transforms from a pink city to a gold city with breathtaking fine layers of lights shining like the sky full of stars.

MI Road – During Diwali, this place looks all glammed up with colorful lights and vibrant decoration. Beautifully decorated shops, echoing firecrackers and traditionally dressed-up people completely delight your senses.

Albert Hall – The State museum of Rajasthan is lit in all the colors that one can only wish to see in a rainbow and even the pigeons that love to rest here are compelled to sit down and admire this exquisite architecture during the Diwali season.

World Trade Park –  World Trade Park stands as one of the poshest places in Jaipur to shop, eat, watch movies, hang out, and whatnot. However, it comes as no surprise that WTP wraps itself in the spirits of Diwali in its own elite and glittering way.

Jal Mahal – During Diwali, Jal Mahal is decorated completely and is catches your eyes instantly. Every corner of this place lights up at the time of Diwali with beautiful fairy lights. One can see the beautiful reflection it has on waters – glittering under the lights. The Diwali fiesta makes Jal Mahal look so astonishing that your eyes wouldn’t blink and will get glued to the splendid sight of the Mahal (Palace) located in the Man Sagar Lake.

Motisons Jewellers on Tonk Road – Being one of the fanciest buildings in Jaipur, Motisons Jewellers will leave no stone unturned when it comes to the festival of lights. Just like their gorgeous jewelry and interesting building, their Diwali lighting also stands out and makes a lot of heads turn.

Amer Fort – Although Amer fort is well lit all year round and stands as a symbol of pride and history in Jaipur, it oozes a different level of aura altogether on Diwali with its yellow sandstone shining brighter and looking like a golden castle in pink city.

Gaurav Tower – Standing out from the crowd Gaurav Tower embraces Diwali in a way that is hard to find anywhere else in India. The sparkling lights, the tinseled buildings, decorated shops, and the men, women, and children dressed in traditional Indian dresses rushing to hang out with their families just give you a view of the true India. This delightful spectacle is mesmerizing and so you must not forget to visit this place if you are celebrating Diwali in Jaipur.

The best time of the year is here bringing with it a number of enthralling and exciting events. And Jaipurites, are known for celebrating the month of January will full zeal and enthusiasm.

After two years of pandemics, we are sure that all of us have been missing the celebratory vibes of Jaipur, and keeping in mind the current scenario, it seems like that this January will be the same too.

But there is nothing that can dim the festive spirit of Jaipur Wallas. Isn’t it? Even if things are different this year and there are restrictions – the heart of Jaipurites is always full of celebrations, love, and laughter. Even if we cannot go out and witness the events physically, we can always put our best dresses on, wear make-up, devour delicious delicacies and tune into the events virtually. We all have enjoyed attending the events physically in the past and we will continue to enjoy this part as well with positivity and hopes for a brighter tomorrow.

Let’s welcome the month of winter fog, mild sun, new hopes, and new celebrations. We have jotted down some of the most happening events that are scheduled to take place in January’22. Even if they happen or not, this blog would be a testimony that Jaipur is home to the most amazing events ever and that nothing can fade away the “Party Spirit” of Jaipurites.

Lohri and Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti is celebrated as the harvest festival of the country. One day before Sankranti, i.e. on Lohri the new crop is offered to God through worshipping fire.

The entire pink city looks like it’s bathing in a riot of colors in the form of different kinds of kites that brighten up the sky and the sound of ‘Woh kaata’ is musical to the ears while gorging on the amazing variety of delicious food and snacks. Talking about snacks, the delicious feasts during these two festivals includes dishes like Daal Ke Pakore, Til Ke Ladoo, Daal Baati-Churma, Bajre Ka Khichra (not the song bajre ka sitta; stop singing it you’ll), Sooji Ka Sheera, Paushbara, Gajake among others. Drooling already?

Before the pandemic struck, the major ritual for Jaipurites would be rising with the morning sun and visiting the Galta Ji temple (sun temple), since, Sankranti is celebrated to venerate the “Sun God”.

One has to visit Kishanpol Bazar and Haldiyon Ka Rasta as these places come alive during Makar Sakranti. To be truly called a “Patangbaaz” in Jaipur, you have to visit the Handipura Bazar. Laden with thousands of kites of all shapes, sizes, and colors, this market becomes the epitome of vibrancy during the festival.

Take in the spirit of this exciting festival, Jaipur’s style, which will hold on to in your memories forever.

Isn’t it ironic that the state which is claimed to have scarcity of water, is also the state that has the most mesmerizing and picturesque lakes that take your breath away every time you visit them? Primarily known as the desert land of India, Rajasthan surprises its visitors with various hues that lay embedded in its vast landscape. The charming views of the shimmering lakes in Rajasthan instill you with a sense of calm while taking you to an alternative world of stillness and magic.  These water bodies are not just beautiful and pristine to look at but are also the carriers of our state’s history, tradition, and ever-evolving culture. So, if you are a big fan of water bodies and are looking to explore the best of them, here we at Jaipur Beat, have compiled a list of the most magical lakes in Rajasthan to visit on your trip to Rajasthan!

Pichola Lake, Udaipur

The crown jewel of Udaipur, Pichola Lake is an artificial lake that is surrounded by magnificent palaces, temples, ghats, and elevated hills. Home to four islands namely, Jag Niwas, Jag Mandir, Mohan Mandir, and Arsi Vilas, this lake is the source of beauty as well as water irrigation purposes in Udaipur. Pichola lake is one of the reasons why Udaipur is known as the city of lakes adorning India. For bird watchers, Lake Pichola is an interesting territory to watch many species of birds that include tufted ducks, coots, egrets, terns, cormorants, and kingfishers. Take a boat ride on it and you will traverse through the vignettes that dot the bewitching landscape of Udaipur.

Mansagar, Jaipur

Jal Mahal, Mansagar Lake, Jaipur is one of the most eloquent lakes present in Rajasthan. Surrounded by the Nahargarh hills in Jaipur, this lake was constructed by Maharaja Man Singh I, to prevent a famine that hit the region during 1610 AD. What will strike the tourist about this lake is the very presence of a royal palace amid its shimmering waters. Aptly called as the “Jal Mahal”, this is one of the lake palaces of Rajasthan that has added a whiff to the state’s tourism. This palace is accessible only via boat which adds to its quintessential royal experience. This lake has been a thriving home to diverse winged wonders including a large flamingo population. Amidst the chaos of the city, Jal Mahal is a serene spot where you can steal a few moments of peace and tranquility.

Amer, Maota, Jaipur

Below the humongous Amer Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site lies the Maota Lake, enveloping the pink city in its breathtaking allure. Maota offers an unparalleled view of cloud-capped Aravalli hills, greenery, the picturesque lake against the backdrop of magnificent Amer Fort.

Fatehsagar Lake , Udaipur

One of the most romantic cities of Rajasthan, Udaipur also houses shimmering lakes. Considered as the pride of Udaipur, The Fatehsagar Lake is an experience to remember. Overlooked by mountains from three sides, this lake is famous for its boating and many other adventure sports. One may opt to drive along the bank while enjoying the scenic beauty of the lakeside. A morning or an evening walk at the Fateh Sagar is something to remember. You can also witness magical sunsets from here while enjoying the splendid views of the serene lake.

Gadisar Lake, Jaisalmer

Flaying constant war with the inimical natural elements, The Great Indian Thar Desert of Jaisalmer offers a breath-taking spectacle to behold through its Gadisar Lake. Gadisar is an artificial lake edged by historic temples and shrines. Today, many people visit Gadisar Lake worldwide to capture photos of the sandstone temples, shrines, and monuments or to unwind in the serenity of a picturesque lake in the oasis of the Thar Desert. The tranquil beauty of the surrounding is an amazing experience.

Kaylana Lake, Jodhpur

Located in Jodhpur, Kaylana Lake covers an area of 8 km. There are three top reasons why you should see Kaylana. One, it is a popular picnic spot; very relaxing and romantic. Two, you can go boating in it since it is a huge lake, and three, stay a little late in the day and see the most spectacular sunset. One can never get enough of the sunset, when the sky turns from blissful blue, golden orange, deep purple until the stars finally appear. For those who love bird watching, Kaylana Lake offers a perfect sanctuary to spot and photograph the beloved creatures.

Anasagar Lake, Ajmer

As soon as you enter the city of Ajmer, the Anasagar lake is probably one of the most visible attractions. It is located in the city center and is one of the best spots to view a stunning sunset and watch migratory birds. The lake is surrounded by lush green gardens called the Daulat Bagh Gardens. You can take a peaceful stroll around these gardens. All in all, the entire locality is filled with picture-perfect spots.

Pushkar Lake, Pushkar

Owing to its mythical origins as well as cultural relevance, The Pushkar Lake inspires awe while being one of the most sacred pilgrimages destinations of India. This lake is more than just a beautiful water body since it personifies the religion, culture, and spiritual values of Rajasthan. There are approximately 500 temples and 52 bathing ghats encircling the lake. With the Aravalli Hills in the background, the lake offers a breath-taking view of the splendid landscape.

Sukh Sagar, Bundi

Rajasthan’s hidden gem Bundi is not yet highly placed on the tourist itineraries and thus the place is still able to preserve its charismatic charm. Sukh Sagar Lake is a wonderful destination in Bundi located amid Aravalli hills, to get relaxed for some time by enjoying the lush greenery amidst the lake. Rudyard Kipling’s the Mowgli man who stayed here got inspired to write Kim in Bundi while he was staying at Sukh Mahal situated at Jait Sagar Lake.

Rajasamand Lake, Rajasamand

One of the largest artificial lakes of the medieval period, Rajasamand Lake is not only mesmerizing but is a true marvel that speaks the story of the creativity of Rajasthan’s civilization to modernization and reflects the incredible history and culture of Mewar. Be amazed at the beautiful Rajsamand lake and its embankment, which is adorned with carved arches and cenotaphs.

So, what are you waiting for? You have the list of the most charming spots, the weather is perfect and all you need to do is pack your bags and head over to these amazing lakes.

The weekends are meant to be savored, and we believe if you are not in a mood to sit on a couch, you must hit the road and indulge in something that has always been at the top of your to-do list?

And if Sand Dunes adventure is on your bucket list, then Jaipur Beat’s recent experience will excite you even without going to Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, or Pushkar. Surprised? You ought to be as we are all set to uncover a secret place for you to witness sand dunes and that too not far from Jaipur. When we stumbled across the picturesque dunes just 45 km away from Jaipur, we couldn’t resist sharing the experience with you all. Visiting this place was indeed worth experiencing. Quickly check out this blog to know more about this one of its kind experience!

A drive to the place in itself was an experience – a few kilometers on Jaipur Agra road (NH 11). The beauty of your journey starts once you leave the highway and drive along the serene but rugged pastures of the countryside. This route is ideal if you enjoy nature and love the idea of finding a flower field that excites you.

Stay –

For the dunes sunset experience, we needed a place to stay overnight. In this rural part of Rajasthan, through an online search, we could find the Heritage hotel Dhulagarh. The hotel is an oasis nestled amidst peaceful and calm surroundings, away from the city’s hustle. The hotel staff was kind enough to have answered all the queries on the call related to the route to reach the destination, nearby places to visit, etc. Hence, we booked our stay after talking to them.

The hotel has Maharani Suite, Maharaja suites, and royal suites for guests to stay. Rooms are clean and are tastefully designed to give a supreme Heritage Stay experience. They have a proper restaurant & bar. The calmness of staying here is unparalleled. Open vistas, fort view, and the rose plantation left us mesmerized. If you are not disturbed by the frequent visits of parrots, owls, and peacocks, you will love this place.

Perfect for travelers craving royal yet serene surroundings amidst nature. Watching historic Dhula fort while sitting on your balcony is a soul-stirring experience.

Food

While your stay, get ready to tantalize your tastebuds as they serve fantastic tasty meals. Their wholesome thali in lunch was nothing less than a treat to the soul. They do serve veg & non-veg and offer different menus each day. Beware because the humble chapatis that are served with so much warmth will force you to end up eating more than required.

Experiences

Dhulagarh experience provides luxury & comfort close to nature while offering a breath of fresh air for recreation and connecting you back to nature. Things to do near by-

 >Sand Dunes: Sunset view and dune bashing were some of the best experiences that we had. These dunes were also the filming location of Jodha Akhbar.

>Carpet making

>Stepwell visit

>Experience Village life from close corners

>Lush flower fields

We would strongly recommend a 4*4 wheel drive for dune bashing.

Need we give more compelling reasons to plan your weekend?

Caution– Avoid night drives in the countryside. The roads are narrow and presently under construction. One must keep asking the hotel staff for the updated road conditions.

Jaipur Beat honours all those individuals of Rajasthan who didn’t get affected by hurdles or challenges and always made a path for themselves.

They exist and coexist in the same system that we crib about and have immersed victoriously, but sadly, some of them don’t even make it to the headlines. There are no discussions on them, they never trend and are under-appreciated.

Changemakers of Rajasthan is a series by Jaipur Beat that salutes such inspiring individuals who have risen above the shackles of society and have successfully created a better life for themselves and others.

Come join us in this journey where we bring to the limelight some amazing anecdotes of some amazing people who deserve our love and respect.

A dignified Border Security Force (BSF) officer, Tanu Shree Pareek, from Bikaner, Rajasthan, made history in 2016 by becoming the first female combat officer in the 51-year history of BSF. In the line of defense forces, women are not conventionally awarded combat roles in India but breaking through the glass ceiling, Tanu Shree took up this grueling challenge and emerged victoriously.

Initially, the men around her were a bit uncomfortable as she was the only woman along an entire lot of BSF trainee officers. She was in college when she joined NCC and the uniform not only gave her a sense of pride but a sense of comfort too. Her family was elated when she secured a rank in the final list of CAPF. At times, she experienced some difficulties not only as a woman but also as a commander on the field but gradually the needs were catered to. Her role in the elite force bestowed her with the responsibility of representing the female fraternity in a male-dominated area. Her position motivates and encourages women and girls to aspire for and achieve their dreams despite the challenges.

Her story of unmatched hard work and discernable passion has truly redefined the spirit of womanhood. We are extremely proud of her and salute her for promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality.
